return of the one-up kid annotated

This was my first finished cd. It was produced mostly on my Tascam 4 track and transferred to the computer so there are horrible tape hiss issues. There will be no lyrics breakdown because some/most of the vocals are freestyled and I'm not going to transcribe freestyles, it goes against the nature of freestyling. I have come to terms with recording freestyles (I won't do it but I don't have too big a problem if someone else does).

intro - an intro, pretty self explanatory. Uncleared sample laiden (ucleared-sample-bin-laden?) I was trying to address the whole "return" concept. I got this whole return thing in my head, I don't know why.

Ascetic swiftly - This is a 4 track beat, anderegg played the bass, and the rest is casio tone and samples. Mine and Danny's verses are written, we actually wrote those rhymes and spit them originally over a Killer Priest instrumental back when we were all into rhyming over Wu-tang related instrumentals.

Oh God Almighty - probably the 2nd or 3rd beat I ever made, ever, and most likely by accident. Chock full of freestyles and such, samples and a drum loop, that's all for the beat. Understandable is on this, this was right before he went back to Miami, kind of like his goodbye track. Natalie is on this too, and she is real fucking fresh.

Milky Hot - Keyboard happy is how I would describe this. I just got my first keyboard module (the small yet robust Korg NS5R, an amazing first keyboard module) and I swear I made sure I used every damn function. Even the fucking bird noise. There is actual accordion, though, played by Anderegg.

Love one - the first of many love songs I've made. This was a freestyle, after school (college) on a Friday, getting drunk kind of joint. My freestyle is abysmal, as always, and describes this dream I had about the literal "girl of my dreams". Ill ben is as poignant as ever with his lyrical gem, "physical violence, that's why I love you". And LMNOP (which, by the way, was the former hip hop pseudonym for Christopher Paul, before we found out that there are tons of MC's named "LMNO" or "LMNOP") his whole verse is classic from the singing to the "fuck your grandma but we love her anyway". Bloody brilliant.

Scary Beach Oldie - I think the title says it all. It's a surf-oldie song set on a scary beach, at least that's how it started, who the fuck knows now. This song will get rhymed on one day, mark my words.

Spy Hunter Safari - this is the sister to Scary Beach Oldie, and not just because it has 3 words in the title. I don't know why they are related, it is what it is.

Love pt 2 - the 2nd love song I ever made. This guy I was working with at the time, Gabe, played the drums on this tiny, pinche, little piece of shit drum set. The beat is all over the place and I donít even know if it gets to its destination.

Valentines day 1999 # 1 - On Valentines day 1999 I woke up hungover, but with a vision. That vision was to squeeze out as many god damn valentines day songs as I fucking could, and title them all "Valentines day 1999" etc, etc. This was the first one, it was an idea I had after watching "the Wedding Singer". That's all I can say about that.

Valentines day 1999 # 2 - On Valentines day 1999 I woke up bla bla. Epyk did the baseline for this. The "Wedding singer" theme is further explored in this one as well.

Valentines day 1999 # 3 - On Valentines day 1999 I woke up, or did I? This one ended up going on Fixxx's 2003 cd "broken" after he rhymed on it. Also, it was on Mose III's Cd "social responsibility". If you would like to rhyme on this beat, send a self addressed stamped envelope to:

Rugratz - this was actually the first complete beat I ever made on the computer, more specifically, Pro Tools, and was the final to a sound class at school (college). Everyone hated it, it was awesome. I have odd visions of dying while listening to this song. I imagine I'll be in some space craft and the breaks will go out and I'll die while this song is on. Weird huh? I try to avoid listening to this song while flying in space crafts (and that's more difficult then it sounds).

Wookie Catscan - another keyboard happy beat. Feeling out the functions. I don't have a problem with this beat I just don't have anything in particular to say about it.

the Manchurian Candidate - Did you see that movie? It was good, check it out. There's this fucking fresh scene where Frank Sinatra is fighting someone and is whooping ass and the guy is on the ground, right, and Sinatra grabs this guys arm and yanking on it while kicking the guy in the ribs, it's an amazing sight and that scene alone makes the movie good.

the dark side - this piece of shit beat. I had it all made up all nicely and then something happened and the beat and the computer fought and I'm not sure who won but it wasn't me and it wasn't the beat. This beat started good and went Kaka, that's all I'm going to say about it, I don't have any hard feelings, but I have a hard on, hay-o(?).
